Harry Potter 7 and so forth
For those of you who have read the book already, I've got an article up about it right here on RevolutionSF.com, and YES, for the Love of God, it contains Spoilers out the wazoo.

Don't click it if you haven't read it. Seriously.

Spoilers.

Lots of them.

What's this "Harry Potter" you speak of? :)

Good article, man. They were seven fun books; it was cool to see so many people into something and having a blast with a book.

If only genre fiction could sell ;)

Alright, I finally finished it. And...

More spoilers, dopes. Avert your eyes.

A few observations, but first a couple of brags.

I *KNEW* *KNEW* *KNEW* a Weasley twin would bite it! I've been saying it for months. People would speculate, and someone would say, "Yeah, Hagrid," and everybody would go, "Ooooh, pooooor Hagrid," but they would get that "I could deal with it" look in their eye. And then I would say, "No, a Weasley twin," and everybody would yelp and scream and their eyes would get big and round and they would yell, "OH MY GOD, NO! SHE COULDN'T!" But that woman is a cold-hearted bitch and I knew it all along, so hah!

I *KNEW* *KNEW* *KNEW* that Harry was a Horcrux. But that one was pretty easy to figure out, so I put it second.

I was a little nonplussed about the 7th book. The exposition via newspaper articles seemed really cheap to me. The months of camping seemed aimless. I missed the lack of a school-year structure. And I really would have liked Harry to not just RISK something in the end, but LOSE something. Were I writing the thing, I know exactly what it would have been, too.

The book really turned a corner, in my opinion, when it returned to Hogwarts. That's really where things in the series belonged, I think; I never cared for the whole horcrux search in the last book, either.

I liked the way she both winked at and laid the smackdown on the "who's going to die" speculation right out of the gate. Admit it, you thought for a minute it was Hagrid right away when they fell out of the sky.

That is all.
